The moon - neck is slit
Blood is shedding
The cold blooded knife is felt by your heart
It is cold like the winter of America’s North, of Paris, of Canberra, and of the forests in Vietnam’s North
Cold like the winter on the pinnacle of the Fan Si Pan mountain
A winter with a fullest moon
But that moon cracks up and breaks apart
It hangs loosely in the middle of the Au O unsettled sky
The Ca Mau tip has elongated its pointed arms
It tries to catch the foamy broken moon shadow that dives into the ocean
‘Au O! Sleep tight! My poor little child! Sleep even in your hunger for milk!
‘In this margin of life
‘Your lips can always taste the moon’s milk drops
‘Drops that are salty, just like your people’s tears
‘Why not break the dry fruit stones in search of the kernel of this passion!
‘And fold up the rags for fungus to germinate to make perfume
Season of passion
Life of sufferings
The moon survives
The child survives
Oh my child! You must ‘live’?
Rhymes are singing, and rhythms have their mouths full of newly harvested rice
The mother of Phu Yen died
Yes, she died! She died a death without any nuance!
In this season of passion
